However Hamilton didn't have it easy. The 2018 season was a title battle between both the Mercedes and Ferrari teams, and Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel who at the time were both four-time world champions. The points lead changed hands between the two drivers five times throughout the year, with Vettel leading the title battle by eight points at the halfway stage, however it was Hamilton who went on to clinch his fifth World Drivers' Championship title, while the Mercedes team also clinched their fifth consecutive World Constructors' Championship.
