Safety Fast | MG Sports Cars | Artwork

£495.00

An original watercolour painting of a 2 seater MG, enjoying itself in the countryside!

A note from the artist: I am not well up on the various marks of MG sports cars. I understand the car I have depicted is a 900cc J2. Anyway, it's loosely derived from an excellent photo of FW3909.

The MG 2 seaters were wonderful little cars, characterful, and individual. The cars were infinitely tuneable, and were therefore ideal for Motorsport of all kinds, whether that be on race tracks like Brooklands or plugging through mud in trials competitions. I remember being driven in one with some enthusiasm as a youngster and I recall the non-synchro gear box which seemed to require skill and the brakes that required belief in the Lord.

The MG was very popular with American servicemen in World War Ill many of the cars found their way over to America after the war. Although somewhat out of date by the early 1950s, the robust and exciting little cars were still held in high regard in the USA and continued to sell well before more refined performance cars became available.

Neil Collins

Neil Collins watercolour artist works from old photographs and likes to research period colours to ensure that details are correct. Neil’s first national exhibition was at the RAC Art of Motoring in 2016 where his water colours found a ready market. Since then he has developed both his style and his client base. The clean lines of Neil’s pictures reflect a lifetime in design disciplines. The translucent and free flowing qualities of water colour give an immediacy to Neil’s work.

“I get an enormous amount of pleasure from researching and planning my paintings. Old photographs are fascinating, and I love to translate old black-and-white photographs into colour with my artwork. Every photograph has a narrative – sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden. I like to have this in my paintings".
