Our Niki Lauda Art Collection celebrates the drives of this acclaimed racing driver with limited edition prints and original paintings from top motoring artists. Rare original race posters often feature in our collections as we source them for enthusiasts, investors and collectors . Niki Lauda was born in 1949 to a wealthy Austrian family whose approval he shunned by persuing a career in Formula One but whose family name he utilised to give him the financial assistance to do so. He proved his worth with March and BRM in 1971-1973 and paid his debts by securing a drive for Ferrari in 1974, and winning them their world championship in 1975 and 1977. Had it not been for his car bursting into flames after crashing at the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring almost costing him his life he was sure to win the 1976 World Championship too. Despite debilitating wounds and scarring he returned six weeks later to race in Monza but lost the vital points and instead handed the title to his rival James Hunt by a narrow margin. The rivalry between the two men is the subject of many stories and even films. After the 1977 season win he then left Ferrari and Formula One to build his airline business but returned in 1982 to McLaren and won his third world championship in 1984.
